The Darling Range is a relatively young region for grape growing, yet its potential is striking.
Located 35 kilometres from the ocean and rising to around 400mtrs above sea level. Classic meditteranean conditions of long hot summers and cool wet winters. Significant diurnal range ensure tight acid retention across most varieties, yet summer days reach in excess of 38dgerees. Think Spain, Portugal, Southern Italy.
The Fairbrossen vineyard of approximately 2Ha, is planted with Tempranillo, Saperavi, Durif, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard sits on a westerly facing slope, with late mornings and long, afternoon sun, yet the cooling effect of Perth “Freo Doctor” seabreeze. Vines are planted on a variety of own roots and rootstock. First plantings began in 2001.
